Mill Cottage stands in the heart of the Cotswold village of Bibury. It is attached to Arlington Mill and once served as the miller’s house. The original mill is mentioned in the Domesday Book; the one that stands today was constructed by Quakers in 1792. Mill Cottage predates the existing mill and is believed to have been constructed around 400 years ago.
The cottage has a typically rugged Cotswold stone tile roof, stone mullioned windows and thick stone walls that keep it cool in summer and warm in winter. There are oak beams within and curving elm floorboards. Warmth is provided by a wood-burning stove in the sitting room. Although steeped in history there having being continuous occupation on the site for well over one thousand years the cottage also has the modern convenience of a dish washer, microwave oven, electric hob and oven. In the utility room there is a washing machine, freezer and tumble dryer.
